Popular Thai Lemon Grass Set To Close

IN THE NEWS: The Free Times' Douglas Trattner reviews Crop Bistro (1400 W. Sixth St., Cleveland) and reports, "After 11 successful years, executive chef and owner Paul Wongngamdee is selling Lemon Grass (2179 Lee Rd.), his popular Thai restaurant. "Unless something goes terribly wrong, it's a done deal," said Jay Staggs, general manager. A Thai restaurant owner from Los Angeles is in the process of buying the business from Wongngamdee and the building from Hiroshi Tsuji. If all goes as planned, the transition should take place by the end of August. Wongngamdee, who was diagnosed with cancer but is now healthy, plans to open a smaller place in a warm-weather state. ... After almost six years as chef de cuisine at Renaissance Cleveland Hotel's signature restaurant, Sans Souci (24 Public Sq.), Ben Fambrough has submitted his resignation." freetimes.com ... The Plain Dealer's Bill Lubinger reports: the Sept. 6 opening of tequila-heavy Zocalo Mexican Grill & Tequileria on East Fourth Street in downtown Cleveland. ... Fady Chamoun and his Aladdin's Eatery management team have added Camille's Sidewalk Cafe, a national chain opening its first local spot at Westgate in Fairview Park late this year or early next. ... Samir's Diner, which was supposed to replace the landmark Ruthie & Moe's downtown months ago, is still working through a frustrating city permit system. Operator Samir Khouri insists the diner's still a go. ... Anatolia Cafe, a gem for Turkish cuisine, will move in early October from Cedar Center in University Heights to the Cedar-Lee area of Cleveland Heights because Cedar Center is being demolished and redeveloped. ... Light Bistro, which replaced Parker's in Ohio City about five months ago, has added lunch hours on Wednesdays through Saturdays. ... Kurt Steeber, executive chef and partner in Ballentine, the promising new Willoughby gastropub, left less than a month after opening. ...
