Winner include Fire Food & Drink as best restaurant, Light Bistro as best new restaurant, and Light Bistro's Matthew Mathlage and Lola's Michael Syman tied as best chef. northernohiolive.com ... The Plain Dealer's Bill Lubinger reports, "When McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant debuts at Beachwood Place in mid-September, the upscale Portland, Ore.-based chain will offer some local flavor -- both in personnel and on the menu. David Walker, general manager at the former Charley's Crab, will run the place. (He's hiring about 100 people.) And his executive chef will be Doug Fulton, who had a hand in opening Blake's Seafood Restaurant & Bar and Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse at Crocker Park in Westlake and ran the meat and seafood sections of Akron's West Point Market. ... Sunny and Matt Kanegkasikorn, married partners in the popular Mint Cafe on Coventry Road in Cleveland Heights, are working on a second location. Construction has begun to convert a shop at Landerwood Plaza in Pepper Pike into an 80- to 90-seat restaurant with the same Thai menu as the Coventry spot, which they opened in early 2006. This one will be called Peppermint Thai Cuisine, playing off the location. They're hoping for an October opening. ... Rivals Sports Grille has opened (three months later than hoped) in Middleburg Heights in the former Instant Replay spot. ... Cyrus Davarpanah has already left the restaurant that carries his name -- Cyrus Waterfront Restaurant & Patio. The place opened in May at the Powerhouse on the west bank of the Flats. Partner Brent Lewanski took over as interim general manager. John Bateman was promoted from sous to executive chef. ... David Farkus reviews Stino da Napoli. cleveland.com ... The Scene's Elaine Cicora reviews Velocity American Bistro (10427 Clifton Boulevard, www.velocitybistro.com) and reports on the Aug. 2 opening of 27-year-old entrepreneur Andy Himmel (Boulevard Blue)'s second restaurant, Paladar Latin Kitchen, in Woodmere's Eton-Chagrin, with Nuevo Latino cuisine from chef Matt Mytro. ...
